June 27 - Last week Mika and I took a trip to the towns of Ofunato, Rikuzen-Takata and Kesennuma along the tsunami-damaged Sanriku coast, to observe the recovery and strengthen U.S.-Japan ties there. We were very impressed to see how much progress has been made toward reconstruction. [More]

June 16 - Every four years the world is convulsed with excitement over the World Cup, and the U.S. is no different. More American kids play soccer than any other sport. I also played starting when I was 10 years old, and I've joined adult leagues from time to time as well. [More]

June 12 - Japan is well-known in other countries as a center for advanced technology, and it is hard to find any other society as interested in engineering and cool gadgets. President Obama experienced this himself when he visited the Miraikan science museum in Tokyo in April. [More]
